About a decade ago, I was starting to help others with magick, and an associate said I did “High Magick,” without bothering to explain what that meant.
So, if you are wondering, this is what High Magik can mean. There are many definitions, and none of the more popular descriptions fully matches my mode of magik. Still, the term stuck.
Some people use High Magik as another name for ceremonial magik. Under that definition, the magician performs a structured ritual using tools, symbols, robes, incense, circles, candles, and carefully spoken invocations. The ritual may call upon a deity, angel, daemon, planetary intelligence, or another spiritual being.
Others define High Magik by its goal. They say High Magik concerns spiritual growth, initiation, enlightenment, or reaching some higher level of consciousness. In that system, practical magik for money, protection, healing, or attraction gets labeled low magik.
There are also people who describe High Magik as reaching a higher plane, raising one’s vibration, or contacting higher beings. Those descriptions sound impressive, but they often remain vague. They rarely explain what the magician actually does, where the power comes from, or how the work produces a result.
My method began with simple ritual magik. I used candles, sigils, spoken words, and the usual forms of invocation. I worked with gods, goddesses, and daemons. I still use those methods when they fit the operation.
Over time, though, I kept feeling that the ritual needed to become simpler.
The more I worked, the more I noticed that many ritual actions existed mainly to move the magician into the correct state of mind. The candle did not create the power. The incense did not create the power. The robe, circle, altar, and ritual weapon did not create the power.
The magician created the shift.
The tools helped direct attention. They marked the beginning of the work and separated the ritual from ordinary activity. They helped the conscious mind accept that something unusual was taking place.
That can matter, especially when someone is learning. A physical ritual gives the mind something to follow. Each action reinforces the intent and moves the magician deeper into the operation.
The problem begins when the magician believes the props contain the power.
They do not.
A person can perform every movement correctly, pronounce every name perfectly, and use the proper incense under the correct planetary hour, yet still produce no meaningful result. The ritual may look impressive, but appearance does not move energy.
My approach places the focus on the magician’s own energy, intent, authority, and ability to direct force.
That does not mean spiritual beings have no role. I have worked with deities and daemons for decades. They possess their own intelligence, power, and character. Working with them can strengthen an operation and open possibilities the magician may not reach alone.
But the magician must still show up.
You cannot mumble an invocation, light a candle, and expect a deity or daemon to carry the entire operation. You bring your own energy into the work. You establish contact. You state the intent. You direct the force toward the desired result.
In my method, High Magik does not mean complicated magik. It does not mean expensive tools, long ceremonies, or memorized speeches. It does not mean pretending material needs are beneath you.
High Magik means working from a position of awareness and authority.
The magician understands that consciousness affects energy and that directed energy affects reality. The ritual exists to focus that process. When the magician no longer needs the outer structure, the ritual can become shorter.
In some cases, it can disappear almost entirely.
A complete operation may consist of entering the correct mental state, building the desired result in the mind, gathering energy, making contact if needed, then issuing a clear command. No altar is required. No special clothing is required. No audience is required.
The work happens through focus, energy, and command.
This also makes the method more accessible. You do not need a private temple room. You do not need hundreds of dollars in supplies. You do not need to wait for a specific hour on a specific day unless timing serves a real purpose.
You need control of your attention. You need a clear intent. You need enough energy behind that intent to make an impression on reality.
That sounds simple, but simple does not mean easy.
Many people cannot hold a clear thought for thirty seconds without drifting into worry, doubt, or unrelated mental noise. Others cannot imagine the result without immediately imagining failure. Some issue an intent, then spend the next week checking for proof that nothing happened.
This is why mental control matters more than ritual complexity.
High Magik, as I teach it, strips away what is unnecessary and strengthens what actually drives the operation. The magician learns to control attention, build energy, establish contact, issue commands, and then allow the work to move.
The tools remain available. Use them when they sharpen the operation. Discard them when they become a distraction.
The goal is not to perform a beautiful ritual.
The goal is to make the magik work.
This site is the best place to begin your journey into finding your own magik style, be it classic High Magik, or my own modified magick style. I have quite a few classes here, including my inaugural High Magik class.
I also use the spelling “magik” but the word Magick also applies.
